The Braves pushed their lead out to 20-14 following a three from Quay Watson with 8:20 on the clock, but the hosts would be limited to free throws for the next eight minutes as Virginia State closed out the half on an 18-9 run to send the teams to the locker rooms with the Trojans leading 32-29.
2ND HALF

Virginia State worked its deficit back to 52-50 with a pair of free throws, but a 15-0 run started by a triple from Bradlee Haskell pushed the UNC Pembroke lead out to 67-50 with 5:14 remaining in regulation. An old-fashioned three-point play from Jared White cut the VSU deficit back to 67-53, but the hosts went on a 9-2 surge to take their largest lead of the night, 76-55, with a fastbreak layup from Dallas Gardner with just under three minutes left on the clock.
