Men’s Basketball Dominates Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The UNC Pembroke men's basketball shot 52.5 percent from the field and knocked down 12 three pointers to help fuel an 86-66 victory over Young Harris on Saturday afternoon inside the Harp Recreation and Commencement Center.
 
The Braves (16-6, 13-2 CC) have now won their last five contests and are 7-4 when playing on the road.  The setback for the Mountain Lions (15-7, 10-4 CC) marks their second straight loss this season and their second consecutive loss when playing at home.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST HALF
Young Harris took what would be its largest lead of the contest, 8-5, with a layup from Karl Chavis just four minutes into the action. Bradlee Haskell sparked UNC Pembroke one a 14-0 run capped off with a three from Josh Berenbaum in transition to give the Braves 19-8 lead with 12:21 left to play in the opening half. An Elijah Cobb three cushioned the UNCP lead, 30-15, with 7:15 on the clock, but the Mountain Lions would chip away at their deficit, 34-27, following a 12-4 run with four minutes left in the period. The Braves shot 53.1 percent from the floor during the frame and held a 44-33 advantage as the teams headed into the locker rooms. 
2ND HALF
UNC Pembroke started the half on an 18-3 run to take its largest lead of the afternoon, 62-36, with a triple from Josh Berenbaum with 13:44 left to play in regulation. Young Harris scored the next six points to work its deficit back to 62-42, but the Braves would pad their lead, 72-48 with a 3-pointer from Bradlee Haskell with 7:32 left on the clock. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
+ Bradlee Haskell finished with 26 points highlighted by an 8-for-15 clip from the field. The senior flirted with a double-double with seven assists while also adding five rebounds.
+ Joe'l Pettiford logged a double-double with a career-high 20 points and 10 rebounds. 
+ Josh Berenbaum came off of the bench to add 12 points on a perfect 5-for-5 showing from the field. 
NOTABLES
+ UNC Pembroke shot 52.5 percent from the field and finished the contest going 12-for-24 from the perimeter. 
+ Young Harris finished the contest going 22-for-37 from the free throw line, while UNCP was 10-for-12 from the charity stripe. 
+ The Black & Gold scored 17 points from 11 YHC turnovers
UP NEXT
The Braves return to action at home on Wednesday for Tribe Night when they welcome Chowan to Pembroke for a key divisional matchup. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
