Berenbaum’s Basket Helps No. 25 Men’s Basketball By No. 13 Lincoln Memorial

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The 25th-ranked UNC Pembroke men's basketball team forced a Lincoln Memorial turnover with 30 seconds remaining and used a layup from Josh Berenbaum with one second left in regulation to defeated LMU 90-88 in the first round of the NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament inside the Frank G. Lumpkin Center.
 
The Braves (24-6) have now won their last 13 contest and the last two meetings over Lincoln Memorial. The Railsplitters (25-6) have now lost their last two contests and end their season 9-4 when playing on the road and 2-2 when playing on neutral floors.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST HALF
UNC Pembroke took its largest lead of the contest, 17-9, following a layup from Ant Abraham with 11:09 left the play in the first half. Lincoln Memorial went on an 8-0 run to tie the score at 17, but the Braves pushed their lead out to 24-19 after a pair of Dallas Gardner free throws with just under seven minutes remaining in the period. The Railsplitters put together a 10-3 surge to lead 31-27 with 4:23 on the clock, but both teams traded baskets over the next few minutes before Bradlee Haskell's layup to end the half and send the teams to the locker rooms with the Braves leading 41-37. 
2ND HALF
Lincoln Memorial took its largest lead of the night, 69-65, after a triple from Wes Enis halfway through the period. UNC Pembroke scored the next eight points to take a 74-69 advantage after a three from Dallas Gardner with 8:20 on the clock. JaJuan Carr knocked down a 3-pointer to push the UNCP lead out to 82-77 with 5:33 on the clock, but a 6-1 LMU advantage locked the score at 83 with 4:20 remaining in regulation. The Railsplitters took an 88-85 lead with 2:13 on the clock, but a key layup from JaJuan Carr and a free throw from Elijah Cobb tied the score at 88 with 53 seconds left on the clock. The Braves got a big stop on defense with an offensive foul called against the Railsplitters, and Josh Berenbaum capiltiazed on the offensive glass for the game-winning basket with one second left on the clock. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
+ Bradlee Haskell finished with a team-high 21 points and was 6-for-6 from the free throw line. The senior pulled down three rebounds and had one assist in 39 minutes of work.
+ Dallas Gardner turned in 19 points highlighted by a 12-for-13 clip from the charity stripe. The Charlotte native flirted with a double-double with seven rebounds.

+ Ant Abraham came off of the bench to add 13 points highlighted by a 2-for-3 clip from the perimeter. 
+ Josh Berenbaum also came off of the bench to chip in a dozen points and was 5-for-8 from the floor. 
NOTABLES9
+ Saturday marked the first win in an NCAA Southeast Regional game since the 2021-22 season where UNC Pembroke defeated Flagler 74-70 in the first round of the tournament.
+ The Braves shot 43.9 percent from the field, while Lincoln Memorial finished the contest shooting 52.6 percent from the floor. 
+ The Black & Gold held the lead for nearly 26 minutes (25:25) of Saturday's victory. 
+ UNCP posted a 20-8 advantage on second chance points.

The Braves will be back in action on Sunday when they take on top-seeded Columbus State. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. inside the Frank G. Lumpkin Center.
