THE BASICS
SCORE: UNC Pembroke 25, No. 16 Delta State 21
RECORDS: UNC Pembroke 2-1; Delta State 2-1
LOCATION: Pembroke, N.C. (Grace P. Johnson Stadium)
HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
UNC Pembroke capitalized early with a 27-yard field goal by Taylor Harris at 9:54, following a series of penalties and a 23-yard rush by Tre Robinson. However, the Statesmen quickly responded with a 26-yard touchdown pass from Cole Kirk to Matt Rozier, putting them ahead 7–3 after Cade Mangum's successful extra point. Delta State then seized momentum as William Carter forced a fumble from Tre Robinson, recovering the ball and returning it 12 yards to the UNCP 31-yard line. Despite a subsequent interception by Donovan Woods that halted their progress, the visiting team carried a 7–3 lead into the second quarter.
2ND QUARTER
The second quarter began with Delta State starting at the UNCP 10-yard line, but a personal foul penalty pushed them back, and Cade Mangum missed a 27-yard field goal attempt at 13:10. UNC Pembroke took over and moved the ball efficiently, with Tre Robinson completing a crucial 17-yard pass to Que Kennedy. However, Tre Robinson's drive ended with an interception by Taylon Doss at the Delta State 1-yard line with 5:48 remaining. Delta State capitalized on the turnover, orchestrating an 86-yard drive capped by a Nick Clark 8-yard rushing touchdown at 1:21, followed by a successful extra point by Cade Mangum. The first half ended with the Statesmen leading 14–3 after a final drive stalled due to a turnover on downs.
3RD QUARTER
Delta State started the half with the ball, but their drive was stalled early by incomplete passes. Tre Robinson orchestrated a 72-yard drive, culminating in a 7-yard touchdown pass to Joel Felder at the 7:57 mark, narrowing the score gap to 14–10 after a successful PAT by Taylor Harris. Delta State's subsequent drive was cut short when Cole Kirk's pass was intercepted by Donovan Woods at the Braves' 25-yard line. However, the possession quickly changed hands again when Tre Robinson's pass was intercepted by Tye Holsey, but Delta State was unable to capitalize, ending the quarter without further scoring.
4TH QUARTER
The fourth quarter began with the Statesmen extending their lead to 21-10 after Garrett Ames connected with Curtis Rearden for a 25-yard touchdown pass just six seconds into the frame. The Braves responded swiftly, with Tre Robinson orchestrating a 75-yard drive culminating in his 10-yard rushing touchdown at the 10:30 mark, cutting the deficit back to 21-18. After a series of exchanges, Tre Robinson led another determined drive, highlighted by a crucial 29-yard pass to Joel Felder, before scoring the go-ahead touchdown with a 3-yard run with just over a minute remaining, putting the Braves up 25-21. Delta State's final attempt to reclaim the lead fell short as Jamiel Davis broke up a fourth-down pass, allowing the Braves to secure the victory.
