Volleyball Sweeps Southern Wesleyan For Conference Opener

PEMBROKE – UNC Pembroke hit .239 from the net and limited Southern Wesleyan to just .086 hitting to secure a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-21) sweep over the Warriors on Friday evening at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. 

The victory for the Braves (4-4, 1-0 CC) snapped a two-game skid and improve to 7-1 all-time against SWU. The Warriors (2-4, 0-2 CC) have now lost their last two contests and fall to 1-2 when playing on the road.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 25-19 UNC Pembroke won the opening point on an Alexandria Mills to start the match. After a brief exchange of points, Michaela Andress served an ace for Southern Wesleyan, contributing to an early 3-1 lead. The Braves responded with a four-point run, capitalizing on errors from Southern Wesleyan, including two attack errors that enabled the home team to take a 6-3 lead. Abby Peduzzi was instrumental for the Black & Gold, tallying multiple kills, including three consecutive points to stretch their lead to 17-10. Despite a late surge by SWU, highlighted by kills from Kaylon Chapman and Briley Wolff, the hosts maintained control with key plays from Kaitlyn Koel and a service ace by Emily Collings to close the set.
SET 2 I 25-20 UNC Pembroke overcame an initial deficit after a service error by the Braves to put Southern Wesleyan on the board first. A service ace by Isabella Dillman and kills by Kaitlyn Koel and McKenna Hayes helped UNCP gain momentum with a 4-2 lead. The hosts maintained their advantage through a series of effective plays, including a block by Abby Peduzzi and McKenna Hayes that extended the UNCP lead to 7-3. Southern Wesleyan attempted to close the gap with consecutive points, narrowing the UNC Pembroke lead to 18-15 after several attack errors by the Black & Gold.. However, the Braves responded with key kills from Savannah Whaley and McKenna Hayes to take a two set lead. 
SET 3 I 25-21 Southern Wesleyan opened with a quick 2-0 lead, but the Braves responded steadily, with Tyler Patterson securing their first point with a kill. A service error by the Warriors tied the game at 4-4, after which UNC Pembroke took the lead with a service ace from Isabella Dillman at 7-5. Abby Peduzzi logged multiple kills to extend UNCP advantage to 17-11. Despite a late surge from SWU, closing the gap to 21-19, UNC Pembroke took the final set with a pair of kills from Kaitlyn Koel
