Lander Downs Volleyball In Three Sets

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Lander hit .278 from the net and registered nine service aces to help key a 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-17) sweep over the UNC Pembroke volleyball team on Tuesday evening inside Horne Arena. 

The setback for the Braves (7-5) snapped a four game winning streak and fall to 1-2 when playing away from Pembroke this season. The Bearcats (8-5) have now won the last 11 contests against UNCP when playing in Greenwood, S.C., and improve to a perfect 5-0 when playing at home this season.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 12-25 Lander's Katie Miller and Amelia May logged consecutive kills giving the Bearcats and early 5-1 lead. Alexandria Mills managed to break the run with a kill, but Lander maintained control with a series of attacks, including a service ace by Sam Alwardt, widening the gap to 12-6. Lander's dominance continued as Katie Miller delivered three consecutive service aces, pushing their lead to 21-11. The set concluded with Lander's Alyssa Tegeler blocking a UNCP attack. 
SET 2 I 20-25 Katie Miller led the charge with a series of decisive plays in the second set against the Braves, contributing multiple kills to establish an early 3-0 lead. The Bearcats pushed their lead out to 15-10 after a key sequence of kills. UNCP attempted a comeback, leveling the score at 20-20 with strong efforts from McKenna Hayes and a series of service aces by Alexandria Mills. However, Lander regained control with a late surge, including kills by Alyssa Tegeler and another by Katie Miller, to secure the set 25-20.
SET 3 I 17-25 The set opened with UNC Pembroke taking an early 2-0 advantage, thanks to Abby Peduzzi's kill. However, Lander quickly gained momentum with Ryleigh Willard and Karson Browning contributing key kills, pushing the Bearcats ahead 7-4. A service ace by Katie Miller extended Lander's lead to 9-4. McKenna Hayes attempted to rally the Braves with multiple kills, but Lander maintained control.
