Soccer Falls To #12 North Georgia

PEMBROKE – 12th-ranked North Georgia rode four first-half goals on the way to a 4-2 non-conference win over UNC Pembroke in the season opener for the Braves on Saturday afternoon at LREMC Stadium.

Maya McDonald and Mercy Bell each tallied a goal for the Black & Gold, with Aubrianna Martin adding an assist.

The Braves (0-1-0, 0-0-0 CC) fell to to 10-10-3 in the all-time series with the Nighthawks (2-0-0, 0-0-0 PBC), and have now dropped five of the last six meetings with North Georgia.

 
SCORING SUMMARY
11' North Georgia's Bailey Oetinger struck first on assists from Nina Lopez and Kyleigh Drew to give the Nighthawks an early 1-0 lead.
20' Drew collected a loose ball in front of the net and put it home to make it 2-0.
27' UNG's Alex Clark sent a centering pass to the foot of Sam Cottle, who redirected it into the back of the net to stretch the lead to 3-0.
43' Kathryn Clark's throw in found the foot of Blanca Cruz, who dribbled in and scored from a tough angle to give the Nighthawks a 4-0 halftime lead.
72' Aubrianna Martin headed a free kick forward to Maya McDonald, who snuck a shot past the UNG goalkeeper to put the Braves on the board.
83' Mercy Bell took control of a pass and dribbled around a Nighthawk defender to get free for a shot and buried a shot side-net to cut the deficit to 4-2.

+ Jasmin Diop led the Braves with a team-high two shots on goal.
+ Mercy Bell added four shots and a goal.
+ Aubrianna Martin recorded her first collegiate point with her assist in the 72nd minute.

UNCP will continue non-conference play Wednesday, September 10 as they head to Hickory to battle Lenoir-Rhyne. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at the Moretz Sports-Athletic Complex.
