Football Flies Past Erskine

PEMBROKE - UNC Pembroke racked up 601 yards of total offense and held Erskine to just 115 yards on the way to a 44-3 rout in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon at Grace P. Johnson Stadium.

The Braves limited the Flying Fleet to 2-of-13 on third down and just 2.2 yards per play.

UNCP (5-2, 2-1 CC) moved to 2-0 in the all-time series with Erskine (2-4, 0-2 CC) after winning 44-7 at Erskine last season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
Erskine's first drive ended with a forced fumble by Jadin Baptist recovered by TaShawn Jeter, while the Braves enusing drive ended with a 21-yard field goal from Jared Navidad to get on the board first. (3-0 UNCP)
2ND QUARTER
UNCP's first drive of the quarter started with a Josh Ehrlich 17-yard completion to Jonathan Barnett, before finding Malik Brown for a 44-yard touchdown just two plays later to extend the lead. (10-0 UNCP)

After holding Erskine to a three-and-out on the next possession, Ehrlich found Barnett on the second play of the drive for a 52-yard touchdown pass. (17-0 UNCP)

Ehrlich picked up where he left off, finding Barnett for a 40-yard completion before Amer Morrison hauled in a 28-yard pass to put the ball at Erskine's four-yard line. Ehrlich found Aaron Osborne on the next play for his third touchdown pass of the half. (24-0 UNCP)
3RD QUARTER
The Braves got the ball first coming out of the half and used a 17-yard reception from Brown and a 26-yard run from Rashad Dockery to enter the red-zone. Ehrlich found Brown for completions of 10 and four yards, the latter for his second touchdown of the day (31-0 UNCP)

Erskine put together an 11-play, 54-yard drive that culminated in a 38-yard field goal by Alessandro Santana Jr. (31-3 UNCP)
4TH QUARTER
UNCP's first fourth-quarter possession was aided by two Osborne catches for 16 and 17 yards, sandwiched by two Jake Davids carries for 22 yards. Ehrlich found Barnett for his second receiving touchdown of the day, this time on a 31-yard completion. (38-3 UNCP)

After another Flying Fleet three-and-out, Ehrlich eventually found paydirt from 33 yards out, scampering home for his sixth touchdown of the day. (44-3 UNCP)
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
+ Josh Ehrlich completed 18 of 27 passing attempts for a career-high 355 yards and five touchdowns, while also adding a touchdown and a game-high 86 yards on the ground.
+ Jonathan Barnett tallied five catches for a career-high 153 yards and two touchdowns.
+ Malik Brown caught five passes for 96 yards and two touchdowns.
+ Aaron Osborne added four catches for 52 yards and a score.
+ Jadin Baptist tallied a team-high nine tackles and also added 1.5 TFLs, a forced fumble, and three QB hurries.
+ Fred Giles racked up seven tackles, two TFLs, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a QB hurry.
NOTABLES
+ UNC Pembroke out-gained Erskine 601-115.
+ The Braves went 6-for-10 on third down, while holding Erskine to just 2-for-13.
+ The UNCP offense racked up a season-high 26 first downs.
+ The 115 yards allowed were the fewest in a game since giving up just 95 to West Virginia Wesleyan on October 21, 2023.

The Braves will return to action on Saturday, October 17 as they make the quick trip to Wilson to take on Barton. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Truist Stadium.
