Baseball Lights Up Emmanuel, Sweeps Doubleheader

PEMBROKE – UNC Pembroke tallied nine extra-base hits, including four home runs, on the way to a doubleheader sweep of Emmanuel in Conference Carolinas action Friday at Sammy Cox Field.

The Braves got 4.1 scoreless innings from its bullpen in the 16-10 win in game one, while Kasen McCawley struck out nine and turned in his second-straight quality start in game two as the Black & Gold won 8-4. 

Landon Lucas and Morgan Padgett each homered in the series opener, while Peyton Young and Branton Jernigan joined the home run party in the nightcap.

The Braves (10-1, 4-1 CC) moved to 8-6 in the all-time series with the Lions (4-9, 2-6 CC). 

UNCP will be back in action Saturday as they close out the series. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 1 The Braves struck first as Daniel Stephens singled and came home to score on a wild pitch. Landon Lucas drove in Hayden Davis with an RBI single, while Branton Jernigan brought home Lucas with a sac fly to make it 3-0.
TOP 3 Reece Kingeter's RBI single got the Lions on the board, while Nick Madrigal singled home two more to knot the game at 3-3.
BOT 4 After Aiden Feather's three-run homer in the top half gave Emmanuel the lead, the Braves answered back with an Ashton Donathan RBI single and a Hayden Davis two-run single to tie the game. Lucas drove in two more with a single to put UNCP ahead 8-6.
BOT 6 Emmanuel led 10-9 going into the bottom half of the sixth, but Donathan's two-run single put the Black & Gold back ahead. Stephens tacked on an RBI single before Davis added a sac fly to make it 13-10.
BOT 7 Lucas led off the frame with a solo jack to right center, while Peyton Young walked and came home on Morgan Padgett's two-run blast to stretch the lead to 16-10.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 2 Peyton Young led off the inning with a solo homer, before Zane Brockman worked a walk and eventually came home on a Daniel Stephens RBI single to give the Braves a quick 2-0 lead.
BOT 3 Landon Lucas singled, Young walked, and Morgan Padgett was hit by a pitch to load the bases and set the stage for Branton Jernigan's grand slam to stretch the lead to 6-0.
