No. 23 Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader And Series Against Chowan

PEMBROKE – No. 23 UNC Pembroke got another quality start from Kasen McCawley in Game 2 of the series, and then used and offensive onslaught to take Game 3 and sweep the series against Chowan in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon at Sammy Cox Field.

McCawley moved to 7-0 on the year after going six shutout innings with a career-high 12 punchouts in the 16-0 win, while the Braves scored a season high in runs to take a 26-6 win in the finale.

Every offensive starter had at least one hit and one run scored in the nightcap, while 11 total Braves delivered at least one RBI. 

The Braves (19-5, 12-3 CC) improved to 38-4 all-time against the Hawks (3-16, 3-12 CC). 

The Black & Gold will be back in action Tuesday, March 17 as they head to Salisbury to take on No. 5 Catawba for a non-conference matchup. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Newman Park.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 1 The Braves got on the board first with a Hayden Davis solo blast.
BOT 2 Ashton Donathan was hit by a pitch and came around to score on a Daniel Stephens RBI HBP, while Davis added a two-run single. Davis came home on a wild pitch, before Mason Mozeley added a two-run blast to stretch the lead to 7-0.
BOT 3 The Braves put the game away as Boone Herman provided an RBI HBP, before Stephens added a sac fly. The inning was capped off by a Landon Lucas grand slam to make it 13-0.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 1 The Braves struck first as Daniel Stephens singled, Hayden Davis walked, and both eventually came home on Peyton Young's two-run single to stake the Braves to a quick 2-0 lead.
BOT 2 After Chowan tied the score at 2-2 in the top half of the inning, UNCP used five RBI singles, and RBI walk, an RBI groundout, and a balk to score eight runs and take a 10-2 lead. 
BOT 6 With the Braves holding a 14-6 lead going into the bottom half of the sixth, Branton Jernigan tacked on a couple more with a two-run blast to make it 16-6.
BOT 8 Jernigan doubled and come home on Frank Himmelreich's first collegiate RBI to make it 20-6, while Logan Blight, Morgan Padgett, and Jernigan added RBI hits.
