Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader, Takes Series At No. 24 Belmont Abbey

BELMONT – UNC Pembroke scored four runs in the last three innings to take a 6-5 win in the first game of the doubleheader, and then pounded out 19 hits on the way to a 20-4 shellacking in the rubber match to take the series over No. 24 Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon at Abbey Yard.

Kasen McCawley moved to 6-0 on the year after grinding through seven innings in the opener, while Cam Revels delivered a massive relief outing to earn the win in the series finale. Every offensive starter had at least one hit and scored a run in the series clincher.

The Braves (16-4, 9-3 CC) improved to 24-23 all-time against the Crusders 13-7, 11-4 CC). 

UNCP will be back in action Tuesday, March 10 as they host Coker for a non-conference matchup. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
TOP 1 The Braves struck first as Mason Mozeley walked and came home on a Branton Jernigan two-run homer to take a 2-0 lead.
BOT 1 Belmont Abbey answered right back on a sac fly and a Jacob Steinberg two-run double to jump ahead 3-2.
TOP 6 The Braves reclaimed the lead as Mozeley and Peyton Young hit back-to-back doubles to tie the game, while Morgan Padgett followed with an RBI single to score Young and give the Braves a 4-3 lead.
BOT 7 After a Hayden Davis sac fly in the sixth inning made it 5-3, the Crusaders tied the game at 5-5 on a sac fly and RBI double.
TOP 8 Ashton Donathan walked and eventually scored the go-ahead run on a Belmont Abbey error to make it 6-5.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 1 Belmont Abbey struck first with a Jake Bidoglio two-run homer before Caleb Burr followed with a solo blast to make it 3-0.
TOP 2 Landon Lucas doubled to start the frame and came home on a BAC error. Ashton Donathan's two-RBI single tied the game, while Hayden Davis gave the Braves the lead with an RBI walk. Mason Mozeley followed with a sac fly before Davis came home on a wild pitch. Lucas capped off the inning with an RBI single to make it 7-3.
TOP 4 Branton Jernigan extended the lead with a three-run jack to make it 10-3.
TOP 7 The Black & Gold put the game away with a nine-run inning, using five hits, four walks, a wild pitch, and an error to stretch the lead to 19-4
