Baseball Splits Doubleheader, Takes Series At King

BRISTOL, Tenn. – UNC Pembroke's offense was stymied in Game 1 of the doubleheader on the way to a 6-2 loss, but bounced back with a 12-4 win in the rubber match to take the series over King in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon.

Daniel Stephens had two of UNCP's five hits in the first game of the twinbill, before racking up three more, including a home run, in the finale. Landon Lucas and Jackson Crute each added three hits apiece in the rubber match, with Crute also tallying three RBI.

CW Bayer turned in a career-high five innings in Game 3, not allowing a run to go along with three strikeouts.

The Braves (28-16, 18-12 CC) moved to 14-2 all-time against the Tornado (13-33, 10-20 CC).

The Black & Gold will be back in action Tuesday, April 21 as they host No. 3 Catawba. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Sammy Cox Field.

BOT 1 King struck first on a Kenny Hirschfeld two-run double, while Misael Garcia added an RBI single to give the Tornado an early 3-0 lead.
BOT 2 The Tornado added three more runs on a bases-clearing double from Hirschfeld to make it 6-0.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
TOP 3 The Braves took the lead on a Daniel Stephens solo homer, while Landon Lucas doubled and came home on Branton Jernigan's RBI single. Jackson Crute added an RBI to make it 3-0.
TOP 7 UNCP put the game away with a six-run, eight-hit inning, using RBI singles from Jernigan, Mason Mozeley, Morgan Padgett, and Tyler Steele, while Boone Herman tacked on two more with a double to cap off the inning.
