Braves' Bats Stay Hot, Cruise To Win Over Barton In Series Opener

PEMBROKE – UNC Pembroke faced a 4-0 deficit heading into the bottom of the first, before rattling off 23 unanswered runs on the way to a 23-4 win over Barton in the series opener Friday evening at Sammy Cox Field.

Four Braves had at least three hits, while five tallied at least three RBI. Landon Lucas drove in four on a 3-5 night, including home runs 18 and 19 on the season.

Rhett Burley entered in the second inning and twirled a career-high four innings, not allowing a run on just one hit to pick up the win. Sean Smith followed with a career-high four scoreless innings of his own to pick up the save.

The Braves (30-16, 19-12) improved to 47-55 in the all-time series against the Bulldogs (35-9), while scoring the most runs against the Bulldogs since the 2022 squad also tallied 23.

The Black & Gold will be back in action Saturday as they wrap up the series with a doubleheader to close out the regular season. First pitch is set for 1 p.m., with Senior Day festivities set to begin at 12:40 p.m.

TOP 1 Barton struck first for four runs on five hits to take a quick 4-0 lead.
BOT 1 The Braves quickly cut into the deficit with a Landon Lucas solo homer to right center to make it 4-1.
BOT 5 UNCP erupted for nine runs on five hits, four hit by pitches, three walks, and a Barton error to take a 10-4 lead.
BOT 6 The Braves tacked on four more via a two-run Barton error, followed by Tyler Steele's two-run homer to stretch the lead to 14-4.
BOT 8 UNC Pembroke struck for its second nine-run inning of the game, using seven hits, two walks, and a Barton error to make it 23-4.
