Volleyball Drops A Pair At Shark Invitational

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic hit .327 at the net and tallied six service aces on the way to a 3-0 (21-25, 19-25, 16-25) sweep of UNC Pembroke in each team's season opener Friday afternoon at the Shark Invitational.
 
The Braves then fell 3-1 (16-25, 25-22, 21-25, 23-25) to host Nova Southeastern in the nightcap to wrap up day one action of the Shark Invitational.

UNCP met Palm Beach Atlantic for the first time since 2013 and fell to 0-6 all time against the Sailfish. The Braves battled Nova Southeastern for the first time since 2004 and now sit 1-4 all time against the Sharks.

SET 1 I 21-25 The Braves jumped out to an early 10-3 lead, and would hold a 19-13 edge late in the set before Palm Beach Atlantic scored 12 of the last 14 points to complete the first-set comeback.
    - PBA out-hit UNCP .235 to .114 in the set.
    - Abby Peduzzi tallied four kills, with Addie Decker logging three and Alexandria Mills recording two.
SET 2 I 19-25 The Sailfish took the early control in set two, jumping out to a 14-5 lead. The Braves would cut the lead to 23-18, but PBA scored two of the final three points to wrap up the set.
    - PBA out-hit UNCP .333 to .172 in the set.
    - Peduzzi once again led the way with four kills, followed by two each from Mills and Tyler Patterson.
SET 3 I 16-25 The two teams went back-and-forth early in the set before PBA took control at 17-9, and eventually would score the match point with a service ace to end the contest.
    - PBA out-hit UNCP .412 to .192 in the set.
    - Peduzzi and Mills each tallied three kills.

SET 1 I 16-25 Nova Southeastern jumped out to an early 9-1 lead, before UNCP clawed back in to cut the deficit to 15-12. The Sharks would counter by scoring five of the next six points to stretch the lead to 20-13 and control the opening set.
    - NSU out-hit UNCP .417 to .030.
    - Danika Kunkle and Alexandria Mills each tallied three kills.
SET 2 I 25-22 The Braves got off to a hot start in set two, taking an 11-5 lead before the Sharks rallied back to go ahead 16-15. Abby Peduzzi's kill tied the set at 22-22, followed by two NSU attack errors to give the Braves set point. Addie Decker put the set away with a kill to tie the match at 1-1.
    - UNCP out-hit NSU .229 to .214.
    - Decker led the way with four kills, while Tyler Patterson tallied two aces.
SET 3 I 21-25 UNCP faced a six-point deficit at 11-5, but fought back to eventually tie the set at 20-20, but NSU would take five of the last six points to claim a 2-1 lead in the match.
    - NSU out-hit UNCP .233 to .200
    - Seven different Braves recorded at least one kill, with Peduzzi, Mills, and Savannah Jackson each logging two.
SET 4 I 23-25 The Black & Gold took a 12-7 lead, but saw the Sharks rally to tie the set at 21 apiece. Kills from Kunkle and Decker gave UNCP a 23-21 lead, but four straight NSU points wrapped up the match.
    - NSU out-hit UNCP .224 to .146.
    - Kunkle led the way with five kills, followed by Decker and Peduzzi's three each.
    - Patterson, Emily Collings, and Grace Brewington each tallied one service ace.
