Soccer Cruises Past Shorter In Home Opener

PEMBROKE– After taking a 2-0 lead into halftime, UNC Pembroke erupted for eight second-half goals en route to a 10-0 win over Shorter in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon at LREMC Stadium.

Seven Braves logged their first collegiate goals in the match, with Haley Sensening recording a hat trick and Emma Davis a brace. Aubrianna Martin, Hailey Jones, Mia Wells, Lilly Vegborn Green, and Sam Huber also recorded a goal apiece for their first collegiate points.

Klara Persson and Leila Utate each logged three assists, with Jones also picking up her first collegiate assist.

The Braves (2-1-2, 1-0-1) moved to 2-0-0 in the all-time series with the Hawks (1-2-0, 1-2-0).
 
SCORING SUMMARY
14' Klara Persson's corner kick found the head of Mia Wells, who headed it past the Shorter goalkeeper for her first collegiate goal to give the Braves a 1-0 lead.
33' Sam Huber collected a loose ball and flicked a shot into the back of the net from six yards out to tally her first collegiate goal to make it 2-0.
53' Persson played a ball ahead to Haley Sensenig, who fired a shot side net for her first collegiate goal to stretch the lead to 3-0.
62' Persson picked up her third assist of the day after playing a ball ahead to Hailey Jones, who put it home from 12 yards out for her first collegiate goal to make it 4-0.
62' Jones would pick up her first collegiate assist just 17 seconds later as she found Sensenig open, who then fired a left-footed strike from the edge of the penalty area past the diving Hawks keeper to make it 5-0.
66' Sensenig would complete her hat trick after picking up a loose ball in the penalty area and firing a right-footed blast into the back of the net to stretch the lead to 6-0.
75' Leila Utate's corner kick found the head of Aubrianna Martin, who redirected it off the post and into the net for her first collegiate goal to make it 7-0.
82' Utate's through ball from midfield found Lilly Vegborn Green, who fired a shot into the back of the net for her first collegiate goal to make it 8-0.
84' Utate once again played a beautiful ball ahead, this time to Emma Davis who collected and scored her first collegiate goal to take the lead to 9-0.
89' Davis was tripped up in the box and stepped up and converted a successful penalty to make it 10-0.
