Volleyball Holds Off Emmanuel In Five Sets

PEMBROKE – Emmanuel hit .313 for the match, but the UNC Pembroke volleyball team registered seven service aces while hitting .202 from the net to hold off the Lions 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. 

The Braves push their win streak out to eight matches. Emmanuel leads the all-time series 5-7, but UNCP has won two out of the last three meetings.

Abby Peduzzi and Tyler Patterson both registered dobule-doubles.

SET 1 I 25-23 Emmanuel tied the opening set at 17 apiece with a UNC Pembroke attack error, but the Braves would try to pull away, 22-19 with a kill from Abby Peduzzi. The Lions scored the next three points to tie the score, but the Braves took the opening set winning three of the final four points. 
    - EU out-hit UNCP .277 to .256 in the set.
    - Abby Peduzzi had five kills during the set. 
    - Danika Kunkle logged a pair of service aces. 
SET 2 I 25-23 Emmanuel held a 19-16 advantage after a kill from Cailin Pritchard, but UNCP rattled off four straight points to take a 20-19 lead. The Lions knotted the scored at 23 apiece, but the Braves won the final two points of the set to take a two set lead. 
    - UNCP out-hit EU .361 to .318 in the set.
    - Abby Peduzzi tallied four kills during the set, while Deorri Gaines and Caterina Coronelli both added three. 
SET 3 I 18-25 Emmanuel established an 18-14 lead late in the set, but UNC Pembroke tried to rally cutting the score to 22-18 with an EU attack error. However, Emmanuel won the final three points of the set.  
    - EU out-hit UNCP .311 to .118 in the set. 
    - Ava Fadool registered a trio of kills during the set.  
SET 4 I 9-25 Emmanuel took a commanding lead, 13-4, with a kill from Natalie Wilson. A kill from Deorri Gaines stopped the EU run, but the Lions won six of the final seven points to send the match to a deciding fifth set. 
    - EU out-hit UNCP .511 to .074 in the set.
    - Ava Fadool logged a trio of kills during the set.  
SET 5 I 15-11 UNCP got a quick start and held a 10-4 lead after a service ace from Tyler Patterson. Emmanule scored the next four points to cut the deficit back to 10-8, but the Braves won five of the final eight points to take the match. 
    - UNCP out-hit EU .192 to .050 in the set.
    - Ava Fadool and Abby Peduzzi finished the set with three kills each.
