Football Grinds Out Win Over Monroe

PEMBROKE - UNC Pembroke was limited to just 38 offensive plays, but averaged 8.4 yards on them and rode a strong defensive showing en route to a 24-6 win Saturday over Monroe on Parents & Families Day at Grace P. Johnson Stadium.

The Braves possessed the ball for just 21:28, but held Monroe to just 4.5 yards per play and 5-13 on third downs.

UNCP (4-1) won its first ever meeting with Monroe (1-3).

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
After a 13 play-57 yard drive by Monroe to open the game ended with a 35-yard missed field goal attempt, the Braves went 80 yards in eight plays, highlighted by a 16-yard reception from Jonathan Barnett before Jake Davids scampered in for a 45-yard touchdown run. (UNCP 7-0)
2ND QUARTER
Dmitri Grieb connected for a 47-yard field goal to put the Mustangs on the board. (7-3 UNCP)

After a UNCP three-and-out on the ensuing drive, Monroe got into field goal range and Grieb tacked on another three points to send the game to halftime. (7-6 UNCP)
3RD QUARTER
Rashad Dockery got the Braves going with an eight-yard run followed by a 23-yard carry. Josh Ehrlich found Malik Brown on the next play for a 30-yard completion, while a Monroe facemask penalty put the ball on the five-yard line. Dockery punched it in a play later to cap off the quick four-play scoring drive. (14-6 UNCP)
4TH QUARTER
UNCP started its first drive of the quarter with a 21-yard completion to Barnett, followed by nine and ten-yard receptions from Tyler Cross and Brown. Ehrlich found Davids for a 16-yard gain to put the Braves in the red zone, but would have to settle for a 25-yard field goal from Jared Navidad. (17-6 UNCP)

The Braves put the game away on Monroe's next possession, as Isi Etute forced a fumble that turned into a 52-yard scoop and score from Britton Pascoe. (24-6 UNCP)
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
+ Josh Ehrlich completed 12 of 16 passing attempts for 173 yards.
+ Jake Davids tallied 87 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, while also adding two catches for 17 yards.
+ Malik Brown caught five passes for 97 yards.
+ Rashad Dockery added 48 yards and a touchdown on five carries.
+ Myles Hudson logged a game-high 11 tackles and added a PBU.
+ Fred Giles racked up eight tackles, three TFLs, and a sack.
+ Britton Pascoe added six tackles and a TFL to go along with his fumble return touchdown.
NOTABLES
+ UNC Pembroke ran just 38 plays to Monroe's 64, but out-gained the Mustangs 318-285. 
+ The Black & Gold lost the time of possession 38:32 to 21:28, marking the lowest time of possession since holding the ball for 21:15 against Charleston on September 21, 2024.
