Volleyball Battles, Reverse Sweeps Barton

PEMBROKE – Barton hit .237 from the net in both the first and the second set, but the UNC Pembroke volleyball team rallied to reverse sweep Barton 3-2 on Tuesday evening at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. 

The Braves tallied 12 service aces on Tuesday, which is the fifth time this season the Black & Gold has had double-digit service aces. The Bulldogs finished Tuesday's match with a season-high 15 total blocks. 

The Black & Gold improve to 8-1 all-time against Barton when playing in Pembroke.

SET 1 I 22-25 Caterina Coronelli's kills gave UNC Pembroke a 17-14, but Barton won the next five points to gain a 19-17 advantage. The Braves rallied and knotted the score at 21, but the Bulldogs won four of the final five points to take the opening set. 
    - BC out-hit UNCP .237 to .098 in the set.
    - Addie Decker and Abby Peduzzi logged three kills each in the set. 
SET 2 I 23-25 UNCP held an 18-17 lead late in the set, but BC took the lead for good in the set, 23-22 on a UNC Pembroke attack error to take a two set lead. 
    - BC out-hit UNCP .237 to .174 in the set. 
    - Danika Kunkle tallied six kills. 
SET 3 I 26-24 Barton stayed in control taking a commanding 18-9 lead, but UNC Pembroke rattled off a 14-1 run to lead 23-19. The Bulldogs fought off four set points to lock the score at 24, but the Braves won the final two points of the set. 
    - UNCP out-hit BC .114 to .067 in the set. 
    - Addie Decker finished the set with four kills. 
    - Alexandria Mills registered two solo blocks, while Chiara Binda and Addie Decker each had a pair of block assists. 
SET 4 I 25-14 UNC Pembroke used a service ace from Isabella Dillman to take a 16-6 lead. Barton tried to chip away, but the Braves stayed in control to send the match to a fifth set.  
    - UNCP out-hit BC .276 to -.036 in the set.
    -  Addie Decker logged a team-best five kills.
    - Danika Kunkle had a pair of service aces. 
SET 5 I 15-12 A kill from Savannah Jackson put the Braves out in from 11-8, but the Bulldogs won the next four points to take a 12-11 advantage. UNCP closed out the match winning the next four points. 
    - Addie Decker had a trio of kills.
