Volleyball Downs Virginia State, Falls To Embry-Riddle On Friday

PEMBROKE – UNC Pembroke hit .218 to start the day, highlighted by hitting .345 in the second set, on the way to a 3-0 sweep over Virginia State in the UNC Pembroke Invitational on Saturday. UNCP closed out the day battling Embry-Riddle where the Eagles swept the Braves 3-0. 

Abby Peduzzi tallied 12 kills, while Deorri Gaines had four blocks in the victory over Virginia State. Peduzzi logged 11 kills in the setback to Embry-Riddle, while Isabella Dillman had 11 digs. 

UNCP (2-4) improved to 7-0 all-time against Virginia State, but fall to 1-3 against Embry-Riddle.

SET 1 I 25-17 Virginia State held a 14-13 lead after a UNC Pembroke attack error, but the Braves rattled off 11-straight points to take a 24-15 lead. 
    - UNCP out-hit VSU .263 to -.032. 
    - Danika Kunkle logged four kills during the set to lead the Braves. 
     - Tyler Patterson had a pair of service aces. 
SET 2 I 25-18 Virginia State got a quick start taking a 9-8 lead with a service ace, but a 13-5 surge from the Braves put UNCP ahead for good 21-14 following a kill from Deorri Gaines. 
    - UNCP out-hit VSU .345 to -.028 in the set.
    - Abby Peduzzi had three kills. 
    - Deorri Gaines and Ava Fadool both registered three block assists. 
SET 3 I 25-23 Abby Peduzzi knotted the score at 11 apiece with a kill, but VSU would be the first to reach 20 first with a kill from Anya McKinley to give the Trojans a 20-19 advantage. The Braves closed out the match winning six of the final nine points of the set. 
    - VSU out-hit UNCP .120 to .115 in the set. 
    - Peduzzi logged seven kills.

SET 1 I 18-25 UNC Pembroke was able to close the gap, 15-14, with a kill from Abby Peduzzi, but Embry-Riddle scored the next five points to stay in command of the first set.

    - Abby Peduzzi logged five kills during the set. 
SET 2 I 19-25 The Braves took a 9-7 lead following a kill from Ava Fadool, but a surge from the Eagles gave Embry-Riddle the lead for good, 18-14 with blocks from Haley Manjack and Fifi Harvey. 
    - ERAU out-hit UNCP .345 to 119 in the set.
    - Caterina Coronelli and Peduzzi each tallied four kills for the Black & Gold. 
SET 3 I 17-25 ERAU established a dominating 17-9 lead with a kill, but the Braves managed to cut the deficit back to 22-17 with a service ace from Grace Brewington. The Eagles sealed the match winning the final three points. 
    - ERAU out-hit UNCP .200 to .000 in the set.
    - Peduzzi and Grace Brewington each logged a service ace.
