A seasoned collegiate coach with both playing and coaching stints at a fellow Mountain East Conference institution, Adam Wattenbarger begins his third season with UNC Pembroke in 2022-23Â as a graduate assistant coach for the Braves.

Wattenbarger, who works primarily with UNCP’s tight ends and fullbacks, came to Pembroke following a two-year coaching stint with his alma mater, Alderson Broaddus. While in Philippi, W.Va., he served a multitude of roles as an assistant coach, including one as the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator during the 2019 campaign. He also served previous stints as the wide receivers coach (2018) and recruiting and video coordinator (2017-18) for the Battlers.

A Springfield, Va., native, Wattenbarger was a member of the Alderson Broaddus football program during its inaugural season in 2012. The quarterback and special teams mainstay played in 21 games for the Battlers over his three-year collegiate career, and served as the holder on field goal and point-after attempts for a majority of his last two seasons.

Wattenbarger earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Alderson Broaddus in 2016. He is pursuing his master’s degree in business administration in UNCP. He resides in Lumberton with his fiancee, Brittany.
