No. 19 Wrestling Posts 2-1 Mark At Newberry Duals

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The 19th-ranked UNC Pembroke wrestling team dropped an early-morning match to Lake Erie, but rebounded with convincing victories over Darton and Alderson Broaddus on Saturday afternoon at the Newberry Duals.

Although forfeiting both the 125- and 141-pound matchups, Lake Erie (7-2) registered six bonus point victories the rest of the way out to key the 29-18 upset over the Braves (3-4). The run of wins for the Storm including one triumph by technical fall, as well as a pair of first period pins.

The Black & Gold would rebound in a big way by compiling five bonus point victories, including a trio of pins, in a 32-12 rout of Darton. The Braves completed Saturday's stay in central South Carolina by tallying five pins and one victory by forfeit in a 42-12 victory over Alderson Broaddus.

Five individuals posted perfect mat records for the Braves on the day, including sixth-ranked Daniel Ownbey who registered two victories by pin and another by forfeit. Dontae Brown held down the fort in the 125-pound division with a trio of victories, as did Eric Milks at 149 pounds. Newcomer Kyle Kidd was unblemished in two matches at 184 pounds, while Chris Giddens (2-0) and Christian McLean (1-0) helped the Braves go unbeaten in the heavyweight division.

The Braves will be back in action again on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 14-15, when they make the long trek to Indianapolis to take part in the prestigious Midwest Classic in Nicoson Hall.
