Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Erskine Flies Past Men's Soccer, 3-0

PEMBROKE – Erskine's Luke Boyce drilled in the game-winner and insurance goals before notching the assist on the final goal of the evening to take the 3-0 win over the UNC Pembroke men's soccer team on Tuesday evening in regional action at Varsity Grounds.

The Braves (2-2-1) spent the first 54 minutes of action in a deadlock for control with Erskine (2-3-0) as the each offense was left wanting by the opposing team's defense. Both Kenneth Perkinson and CJ Cluck collected three saves in the first half as the Flying Fleet led 11-8 in the shots column.

Junior Branco Theis nearly put the Braves on the board with eight minutes left to go in the first stanza as he hammered a shot that hit the cross bar. The scoring session began with Boyce at the 54:01 mark on the assist by Ross Henderson and continued on a penalty kick in the 76th minute. Finally, the Fleet tipped in the final goal of the game when Joe O'Neill shot from the top of the box and into the left side of the post.

In the second half, UNCP out-shot Erskine by three and had eight set pieces from the corner. Freshman Jordan Walshaw led the Braves with five shots including two on goal, while Josh Phelps and Nathan Legge logged a trio of shots.

Perkinson concluded his 90 minutes in goal with four saves, while Cluck registered seven saves. Boyce posted a team-best six shots, while Henderson added five.

UNCP will head to Morrow, Ga., on Saturday to face off against Peach Belt Conference opponent Montevallo (2-2-0, 0-0-0 PBC) in a neutral site contest at Clayton State at Laker Field.
