Women’s Basketball Entertains St. Augustine’s In Mid-Week Affair

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke women's basketball squad does battle with St. Augustine's for the first time since 1995 when the Falcons invade Pembroke Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. tip at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
 
Fans will have an opportunity to receive an autographed team photo of the Braves at Wednesday's contest.
 
Fans can follow the game for free via a live video stream on the UNCP Braves YouTube channel with Petey Powers handling the play-by-play duties. The game can also be followed via a live statistics link.

  • The Braves bring look to rebound after suffering a 65-52 setback at the hands of Wingate Sunday in the home opener. Prior to Sunday, UNCP won its opening two contests over Coker and Fayetteville State.
  • Junior Ebone Stevens paces the Black & Gold with 10.0 points per game, the only Brave in double figures early in the season. Senior Jonissa Monley hauls in a team-best six boards per contest and chips in nine points on average. Sophomore Avery Locklear is second on the squad at 9.3 points per tilt, while senior Jasmine Huntley dishes out five assists per game, a team high.
  • UNCP is shooting at a 39.1-percent clip through three games, including a 38.7-percent mark from behind the arc. The Braves are averaging 14.3 assists per tilt and knock down 70.3 percent of their attempts from the charity stripe. The second quarter has been the best 10 minutes for UNCP this season, outscoring opponents 49-38.
  • St. Augustine's will bring a 2-5 record to Pembroke Wednesday, having dropped two-consecutive games at the ECSU Thanksgiving Classic. The Falcons fell to Elizabeth City State 40-31 before dropping a 103-51 contest to Chowan. Opponents are outscoring St. Augustine's by an average of 14 points per game this season.
  • Kaaliya Williams paces the Falcons with 12.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Kiana Clark chips in 9.3 points and Kamya Renwicks pours in 8.0 points per contest. Kelsee Arnold has dished out a team-best 10 assists, while Renwicks has 11 steals to her name. St. Augustine's shoots 31.7 percent from the field and 26.1 percent from long range, while hitting on 71.3 percent of their free throws.
  • The teams have met just twice in series history, once in the 1979-80 season and again in 1995, splitting the two meetings. Wednesday will mark the eighth-straight game away from home for the Falcons to begin the 2016-17 campaign.
