PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke women's basketball team opens up a short two-game road skid Saturday with a trip to Newport News, Virginia for a showdown with The Apprentice School. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m. at the Apprentice Athletic Facility.

- The Braves (3-1) are coming off a thrilling overtime victory over St. Augustine's, 64-60 Wednesday evening in Pembroke. UNCP is looking to improve to 4-1 or better to start the season for the first time since the 2005-06 season, in which it started 5-0.
- Senior Jonissa Monley scores a team-best 10.5 points per game and hauls in 5.8 rebounds per contest, also tops among Braves. Monley is knocking down shots at a 52-percent clip. Junior Ebone Stevens pours in 8.5 points per tilt, while senior Jasmine Huntley chips in 8.0 points and hands out 5.0 assists per game.
- UNCP is shooting at a 37.6-percent mark through four games, including a 38.1-percent clip from behind the arc (second best in the Peach Belt Conference). The Braves are averaging 15.3 assists per tilt and knock down 67.9 percent of their attempts from the charity stripe. The Black & Gold is 2-0 away from home this season.
- The Apprentice School is 2-4 through the first month of the 2016 campaign, and holds on to a 1-3 record in home affairs. The Builders dropped a 74-69 contest to St. Augustine's Nov. 22, a team that UNCP took down in overtime Wednesday.
- Ylexis Traeger paces the Builders with 18.5 points per game, shooting 43.3 percent from the field. She is second on the squad with 8.5 boards per contest. Courtney White (10.7) and Kerticia Brown (10.0) give The Apprentice School a trio of players that score in double figures on average. As a team, the Builders shoot 35.1 percent overall and 17.7 percent from long range.
- The teams have met just twice in series history, once in 2007 and again in last season, both UNCP victories. Last season, it was an 86-61 victory for the Black & Gold in Pembroke, aided by 14 points from Stevens and 13 from Huntley. The Braves had 22 second-chance points and 22 points off 17 Builder turnovers.
