HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The 23
rd-ranked UNC Pembroke wrestling team tallied 14 takedowns and four near falls on the way to grabbing eight individual victories and posting a convincing 36-6 win at Eastern College Athletic Conference rival Coker on Monday evening at the Harris E. & Louise H. DeLoach Center
It was the second-straight win for the Braves (5-6, 2-2 ECAC) who improved to 4-0 all-time against Coker (3-8, 0-4) with their most lopsided win of the series. The Cobras have now dropped six-straight dual meets dating back to January 12.
Chad Hoff (141 pounds) and
Jake Smith (149) each registered pins as the Black & Gold captured the first five bouts of the evening to build a 21-0 lead on the team scoreboard. Jordon Tague got the Cobras on the board with a 7-4 decision at 165 pounds, but the Braves answered with three more wins down the stretch, including bonus-point wins by all-American
Blaze Shade (174),
Landon Mumford (184) and
Makenna Cook (197).
The Braves will close out a two-match conference road trip on Thursday when they head to central South Carolina to grapple with ECAC-leading and 16
th-ranked Newberry (11-8, 3-0) inside Eleazer Arena. Wrestling action is slated to get underway at 7 p.m.
