Wrestling Knocks Off No. 25 Shippensburg, East Stroudsburg

KUTZTOWN, Pa .Tyler Makosy, Brandon Sloop and Faris Teia all capped off perfect weekends on the mat as the UNC Pembroke wrestling team capped off its stay at the Kutztown Duals with a pair of wins on Saturday, including a convincing victory over 25th-ranked Shippensburg.
 
The Braves (8-10) began day two of the event in Keystone Arena with a dominant 32-14 victory over the Raiders, but fell to Kutztown (4-6) by a 22-14 score in their second matchup of the day. The Black & Gold closed out the event with a 35-6 rout of East Stroudsburg in the nightcap.
 
UNCP won seven of the first eight individual matchups against the Raiders, including two forfeit victories, and eventually built a 33-4 advantage after Teia's 13-4 major decision at 184 pounds. Shippensburg closed out the dual with two bonus-point victories to provide the final.
 
Kutztown led 13-3 after Mikey O'Brien's decision at 157 pounds, but the Braves battled back with three-straight victories and eventually took a 14-13 lead on the team scoreboard after Teia's 22-2 technical fall in the 184-pound bout. The Bears would close out the dual with a pair of wins, using a 10-1 major decision by Dominic Mainiero at 197 pounds and a technical fall in the heavyweight bout, to move to 4-1 at home this season.
 
The Black & Gold won nine of the 10 individual matchups against East Stroudsburg, including a trio of bonus-point wins, to fuel the rout of the Warriors. Eric Milks (injury default), Brandon Sloop (technical fall) and Bryce Walker (pin) all accounted for the bonus-point wins.

The Braves will be back in action again on Friday when they head to Franklin Springs, Ga., for a 7 p.m. contest with Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) foe Emmanuel.
