Baseball Drops Both Ends Of Twinbill With No. 8 North Georgia

PEMBROKE – Peach Belt Conference-leading and eighth-ranked North Georgia rallied for five runs in the first inning to help support a stellar outing from southpaw Steven Bower in game one, and then used a 12-hit attack in game two to finish off a twinbill sweep of the UNC Pembroke baseball team on Saturday at Sammy Cox Field.
 
The setbacks marked the second- and third-straight losses for the Braves (18-22, 8-15 PBC) who will honor their eight-member senior class prior to Sunday's 9:30 a.m. first pitch with the Nighthawks in Pembroke. The triumphs gave North Georgia (28-10, 15-7) its seventh league series victory of the campaign.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
TOP 1 North Georgia sent 10 batters to the plate on the way to scoring five runs in the inning and taking a lead it would not relinquish. The Nighthawks tacked up four hits in the frame, including a 3-run homer from Nick Clarno.
BOT 1 UNG starter Steven Bower plunked Ethan Baucom on a two-strike offering, and Luke Jackson followed with a two-run blast to left field. Bower would rebound, however, to sit down the next 17 batters he faced. 
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
TOP 2 North Georgia took a 2-0 lead into the second, but tacked up the eventual game-winning run on a two-out solo homer from William Mapes.
BOT 4 Trevor Clemons singled to lead off the home half of the fourth, and Ethan Baucom registered his Peach Belt Conference-leading 18th home run of the season two batters later to put the Braves on the board.

The Braves will close out their series with the nationally-ranked Nighthawks on Sunday morning at Sammy Cox Field. The 9:30 a.m. first pitch will be preceded by a Senior Day recognition for UNCP's eight-member Class of 2019.
