Women Finish 4th, Men 9th At Bulldog Stampede

WINGATE – Newcomer Erman Jepleting matched the 20th-fastest 6K time in school history on the way to a seventh-place finish that paced the UNC Pembroke women's cross country team to fourth-place showing at the Wingate-hosted Bulldog Stampede on Saturday morning.

On the men's side, junior Holden Newman led the way for the Black & Gold with a 29th-place finish to help the Braves finish ninth out of 19 teams.
  
Jepleting crossed in seventh place out of 142 runners in the event, while freshman Valary Samoei finished in 20th place in 23:59.8. Skylar Moreno crossed the line in 22nd place at 24:06.1, followed by Riley Axe in 26th place at 24:34.8. The Braves rounded out the scoring with Sam Badami in 40th place at 25:03.9, Corey Pethers in 66th place with a time of 26:40.6 and Shelby McMurray in 91st place at 27:39.1.
 
Newman covered the men's 8K course in 27:36, and Hunter Levy registered a 40th place finish in his collegiate debut with a mark of 28:22. Jarett Arabie crossed in 49th place with a time of 28:45.7 followed by a 50th-place finish from freshman Delsin Burkhart (28:51.8). The Braves scoring was rounded out by freshman Adam Lindee in 86th place (30:30.1).
 
The Braves will be back in action again next weekend when they travel to Nashville, Tenn., for the Trevecca D2 Showcase. The race is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. at the Vaughn's Gap Course.
