PEMBROKE – Athletics department officials from The University of North Carolina at Pembroke announced on Monday morning that women's cross country's Malea Bennewitz and men's cross country's Ed Carney have been named the Scotland Health Care System Braves of the Week for the week ending on October 26, 2025.

A native of Aichwald, Germany, Bennewitz logged a fifth place finish at the Conference Carolinas Championship on Friday to earn first-team all-conference honors. The junior covered the 6K course in a personal-best time of 23:27.54. 

A product of Jersey, Channel Islands, Carney took top honors at the Conference Carolinas Championship to help the Braves to their fourth consecutive conference title. The freshman was tabbed as the Conference Carolinas Runner and Freshman of the Year following the race. Carney covered th 8K course in a time of 25:45.74 to earn first-team all-conference honors.
