Baseball Keeps Rolling, Sweeps PBC Twinbill At Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The UNC Pembroke baseball team tacked up double-digit hit totals for the 15th and 16th time this season, and also used a scattering of multi-run frames along the way to key a doubleheader sweep at Young Harris on Saturday in Georgia. The Braves rallied late to win game one, 7-4, and clinched the weekend series with a 17-9 triumph in the nightcap.
 
The results pushed the win streak out to nine games for the Braves (16-5, 9-2 PBC) who are still riding their longest winning skein since the 2017 club tallied a late-season 10-game win streak. Saturday's contest marked just the second and third home games of the season for the Mountain Lions (9-7, 3-5).

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 5 Trailing by a pair of runs for the second time on the afternoon, the Mountain Lions chopped their deficit in half on Dahlton Cash's RBI double to the gap in right field, and then knotted the game back on a RBI groundout from Paul Salata.
TOP 8 Bobby Dixon legged out an infield single to start the frame, and pinch runner Brennen Hogan moved into position on a sacrifice bunt from Alex Simpson. Jarratt Mobley's RBI single with the next at-bat put the visitors ahead for good.
TOP 8 Garrett Littleton punched a two-ball offering into centerfield to start the frame, and Ethan Baucom gave the Black & Gold a pair of insurance runs with a homer to right field.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 1 Young Harris sent its entire order to the plate to fuel a 5-run frame in the first, including four runs that crossed with two outs showing. A 2-run triple from Brett Hawkins, who crossed the plate himself moments later, highlighted the frame for the hosts.
TOP 5 Ethan Baucom singled to start the frame for UNCP, and the Braves pulled to within a lone run on a RBI single from Trevor Clemons two batters later. The Braves brought the tying run across on a costly error by Young Harris, and then took the lead for good when Jarratt Mobley legged out a bunt single that brought Bobby Dixon scampering home from third base.
TOP 7 UNCP mustered just one hit in the seventh, but took advantage of a sextet free passes, as well as an ill-timed error, to score six insurance runs in the frame. Alex Simpson, Jarratt Mobley and Ethan Baucom all registered RBI in the frame as well.
