HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Joshua Chepkesir logged a 10
th place finish in the 8K to help pace the UNC Pembroke men's cross country team to a 16
th place finish, while
Jackline Kosgei's 35
th place finish guided the women's team to a 21
st place finish on Saturday morning at the UAH Invitational.
A native of Eldoret, Kenya, Chepkesir now holds the five fastest 8K times in program history after covering the course on Saturday in a time of 23:51.0.
Delsin Burkhart (25:10.8) and
Jack Phieffer (25:15.2) each established a new personal-best after crossing the finish line in 110
th place and 119
th place, respectively. Newcomer
Norman Junker finished in 142
nd place with a mark of 25:29.7, while
Hunter Levy (26:09.6) rounded out the scoring for the Black & Gold with a new personal-best time and a 211
th place finish.
Lucas Nervo recorded an 8K time of 26:17.1 to finish in 226
th place, while
Bryan Viera (26:30.0) and
Elisha Kipsang (26:33.4) each registered a personal-best time finishing in 247
th place and 253
rd place, respectively.
On the women's side, Kosgei matched Kyndal Boykin's nine-year-old school record on the way to a 35
th place finish.
Valary Samoei crossed the finish line in 106
th place with a time of 18:53.40, which matched the 13
thfastest time in program history, while
Kathryn Anderson placed 144
th with a 5K time of 19:16.20.
Karen Piro improved her time in the 5K with a new personal-best time of 20:37.90 for 243
rd place, while
Julia Van Dine capped off the scoring for the Braves in 278
th place with a time of 21:06.80.
Newcomer
Jaqueeta Moise finished the race in 344
th place with a time of 22:38.90, while
Chloe Phillips placed 348
th with a mark of 22:47.80.
The Braves will now turn their focus to the Conference Carolinas Championships on November 5. The race will be held at the Milliken Research Park in Spartanburg, S.C.
