USC Aiken Uses Late-Innings Rally To Shock Baseball

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke baseball team plated a pair of runs in the third to take an early 3-0 lead, but visiting USC Aiken pushed across a pair of unearned runs in the seventh and got a 2-run homer from Nick Tripp in the eighth, to rally past the Braves on Sunday at Sammy Cox Field.
 
The setback spoiled the home opener for the Black & Gold (1-1) who got a combined no-hitter on Saturday in Aiken, S.C., to tally a win in its season opener for the 16th-straight season. USC Aiken (1-1) has now captured three of the last four meeting in the series with the Braves.

KEY INNINGS
BOT 2 Newcomer Owen Taylor drew a two-out walk to load the bases, and Spencer Faulkner did the same in the following at-bat to push UNCP's lead out to 2-0. A wild pitch amid the next at-bat gave the hosts a three-run cushion.
TOP 7 USC Aiken used an ill-timed throwing error to plate a pair of unearned runs. Kaden Blankenship's RBI single got the visitors on the board, and the Pacers pulled to within a lone run on a costly two-out wild pitch later in the frame.
TOP 8 Dalton Graves used a walk to climb aboard with one out in the frame, and Nick Tripp hammered the first offering of the next at-bat over the fence in left field to push USC Aiken out in front for good.
