Baseball Drops Series Opener At Belmont Abbey

BELMONT – Home-standing Belmont Abbey erupted for 10 runs on eight hits in the first three innings to help support a quality start from right-hander Jason White and fuel a 12-5 victory over the UNC Pembroke baseball team in Friday's evening's series opener at Abbey Yard.
 
The result marked the second-straight loss for the Braves (19-8, 11-2 CC) and snapped an eight-game win streak for the Black & Gold in Conference Carolinas matchups. It was the 12th home win of the season for the Crusaders (20-9, 11-4) who logged just a pair of hits over the last six frames.

KEY INNINGS
BOT 1 Sean Johnson got the action going for the hosts in the bottom of the first, but it was an ill-timed throwing error by the Braves moments later that opened up the gates for three unearned runs. Run-scoring at-bats from Ben Ferguson and Kale Rhame, as well as a successful double steal attempt, gave the Crusaders an early 3-0 advantage.
