WINSTON-SALEM – Raigan Evans stood at the top of the podium after an event title to help position the UNC Pembroke women's track & field in first place, while Joshua Chepkesir also walked away as an event champion to land the men's team in third place after the opening day of the Conference Carolinas Indoor Track & Field Championships at the JDL Fast Track on Sunday. 
 
Evans bested the field in the Weight Throw and earned first-team all-conference honors with a toss of 16.77-meters. Lillian Marino also earned a spot on the podium in the event with a bronze medal after a mark of 16.97-meters. Julia Van Dine, Reece Hicks, Jaqueeta Moise, Kathryn Anderson all teamed up for the Distance Medley Relay who started the day in grand fashion claiming runner-up honors with a time of 12:50.93. Anderson also logged a second-place finish in the 5000-meter Run, while Jackline Kosgei placed third in the 5000-meter Run.
 
On the men's side, Chepkesir picked up his first event title of the meet in the 5000-meter Run with a time of 14:48.12. Tayvon Callahan (60-meter Hurdles), DaMarr Harvey (60-meter Dash), and Jalen Jones (400-meter Dash) each earned spots in the finals of their respective events after finishing in the top sport of the prelims. 
 
The top three finishers in each event final earn first, second, and third team all-conference accolades. 

The Braves will compete for the conference title on Monday for the final day of the competition at the indoor championships.
