PEMBROKE – Athletics department officials at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke announced Sunday morning that the 10th annual Cash Bash, presented by Scotland Health fundraising event raised more than $141,000 for the department's general scholarship fund.
 
The total of $141,745 was spearheaded by ticket sales for the event which raised nearly $56,000 alone – the highest total raised by that portion of the program in the 10-year history of the department's premier fundraising event. The Fund-A-Cause portion of the evening raked in more than $40,000 toward the total.
 
The annual event has generated nearly $1 million for student-athlete scholarships over the last 10 years.
 
"It can't be understated what the support of our community and our donors means through this event," said athletics director Dick Christy. "Their presence is irreplaceable."
 
The 2023 Cash Bash donned "A Championship Legacy" theme which featured the return of a trio of former student-athletes that have gone on to build successful professional careers. The evening's program showcased those athletes – as well as legendary UNCP athletics director and coach Lacey Gane – in 4-minute feature videos in which the honorees or their designees spoke about their success on campus, as well as how UNCP contributed to their life's successes.
