Women’s Hoops Set To Play Virginia Union, Longwood This Weekend

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke women's basketball team will trek to Virginia this weekend for a pair of contests set to begin on Saturday. The Braves will start the weekend action on Saturday in Richmond, Va., for a non-conference contest with Virginia Union at 2 p.m., inside Barco-Stevens Hall.

UNCP will close out the weekend trip on Sunday in Farmville, Va., for an exhibition against Division I Longwood at 1 p.m. at the Joan Perry Brock Center. 
 
Fans unable to make the weekend road trip can follow along all weekend with live stats and live video. A live video stream will be provided for free for fans on the CIAA Network. Live stats will not be provided for Saturday. 

Sunday's game can be viewed on ESPN+ with a valid subscription. Live stats will be provided for free for Sunday's contest courtesy of Longwood.

ABOUT UNC PEMBROKE
  • Saturday's meeting against Virginia Union will mark just the second time the two teams have met. UNC Pembroke won the only matchup 72-56 in Pembroke on Dec. 3, 2024.
  • Sunday's contest against Longwood will be the fifth time the two teams have played. Longwood won the last meeting, 65-57 on Nov. 29, 1992. Sunday's game will be a countable game for Longwood, but will be an exhibition for UNCP.
  • The Braves head into the weekend following a 58-56 setback at Elizabeth City State on Monday. UNCP outscored ECSU 21-11 in the third quarter, but committed 25 turnovers during the game.
  • The Black & Gold average 61.3 points per game and are shooting 39.5 percent from the field. Opponents are averaging 71.2 points per game and are shooting 41.3 percent from the floor.
  • The Black & Gold average 36.2 rebounds per game and 16.3 turnovers per contest. Opponents tally 40.0 rebounds per outing and average 12.7 turnovers per game. 
  • Anastasia Sinclair leads the Braves averaging 11.2 points per game. The junior has started in every contest this season and is shooting 46.2 percent from the field. 
ABOUT VIRGINIA UNION
  • Virginia Union rides a four-game win streak into Saturday's contest and is fresh off of a 53-49 victory over Johnson C. Smith on Wednesday. The Panthers shot 38.0 percent from the field and scored 20 second chance points.
  • VUU averages 62.8 points per game and is shooting 39.3 percent from the field. Opponents average 53.2 points per game and are shooting 34.2 percent from the floor. 
  • The Panthers force their opponents into 19.8 turnovers and score 17.8 points from those turnovers.
  • Bruni Martinez leads Virginia Union with 16.0 points per game and is shooting 54.0 percent from the floor. The senior has scored 20 or more points in all but two games.
ABOUT LONGWOOD
  • Longwood had its two-game win streak snapped on Wednesday with a 86-83 setback against Troy. Troy shot 42.4 percent from the floor and outscored Longwood 58-22 with points in the paint.
  • The Lancers average 78.2 points per game and are shooting 40.5 percent from the field. Opponents are being held to 65.0 points per contest and are shooting 38.3 percent from the floor.
  • Longwood ranks fifth in the nation for turnovers forced per game with 25.7. The Lancers score 27.4 points from those turnovers per game. 
  • Amor Harris leads Longwood averaging 13.4 points per game and is shooting 42 percent from the field. The every day starter is shooting 41.2 percent from the perimeter.
