WINGATE – Kelvin Kibet turned in a 19th-place finish in the men's 7K race to help lead the team to a fifth-place finish, while Malea Bennewitz paced the women's side with a 23-rd place finish on the way to taking eighth place as a squad Saturday morning at the Bulldog Stampede hosted by Wingate. 

Kibet crossed in 22:39.29, with Antony Kigen 23rd at 22:44.35, and Ed Carney right behind him in 24th with a time of 22:48.17. Ryan Ibarra (23:14.86) took 36th, Conrad Robertson (23:23.79) was 42nd, with Daniel Mejias (24:28.94) in 73rd. Payden Lewis crossed in 82nd at 24:52.02, with Will Clancey finishing 88th with a time of 25:04.96, and JP Marquez in 100th at 25:37.23. Alex Butler finished 118th with a time of 27:38.28 to round out the men's side.

Bennewitz turned in a personal-best time of 23:44.20, with Sophia Olszak in 31st at 24:02.23, and Sofia Skidmore finishing 46th with a time of 24:45.93. Michela Gritti (25:32.98) was 57th, Lizzy Laurine (32:05.26) finished 97th, while LaNiya Harris (34:36.06) crossed in 102nd to round out the women's finishers. 

The men's squad finished with 133 points to take fifth, while the women's team finished with 223 points to take eighth.
 
UNCP will resume its race schedule on Friday, October 3 at the Paul Short Run. The Lehigh-hosted event will take place at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course in Bethlehem, Pa. Races are set to begin at 9:30 a.m.
