PEMBROKE – Athletics department officials at The University of North Carolina Pembroke announced Tuesday that Michael Musselwhite has been named Assistant Athletics Director for Athletic Training & Sports Medicine.

Having served previously as a graduate assistant athletic trainer and an athletic training undergraduate student at UNCP, Musselwhite enters his 10^th year at UNC Pembroke in 2026-27 with a sport assignment of baseball.

"I am thrilled for Muss to move into this position leading our athletic training department," said Director of Athletics Scott Byrd. "Giving our student-athletes the best possible care to help them succeed on the playing surfaces is a huge role. His experience and knowledge of UNCP is a valuable asset to setting our student-athletes up for success." 

During his time at UNCP, Musselwhite has worked directly with all sports in some fashion, with majority of time served with the baseball and softball programs. 

Musselwhite is certified in Total Motion Release Dry Needling, and reflexive performance reset, as certifications and a service provided to student-athletes.
 
"I am excited for the opportunity and look forward to the continued advancement of UNCP athletics," said Musselwhite. 
 
Musselwhite received his bachelor's degree in athletic training from UNC Pembroke in 2014, and then earned his master's degree in sports administration from UNCP in 2016. He resides in Lumberton with his wife, Courtney, and their daughter, Mila.
