PEMBROKE – Visiting Montevallo plated a pair of runs in each of the first two innings to provide more than enough run support for Jamison Roney who pitched into the seventh inning and led the Falcons to a series-clinching 11-4 win over the UNC Pembroke baseball team on Sunday afternoon at Sammy Cox Field.

Roberto Rivera and Nick Salisbury both scored runs on 2-for-4 days at the plate to pace the Braves (7-2, 1-2 PBC), while Stibel Aleman Saba drove in a run to highlight a 2-for-4 hitting line himself. Drew Beaver walked and drove in a pair of runs on a 1-for-3 showing for the hosts as well.

Jeremy Hyde (2-for-4) hit a pair of two-run homers for the Falcons (7-4, 2-1), while Dane Hutcheon singled three times and scored thrice for the victors. Collin Dupree finished the day with a perfect 2-for-2 performance.

Logan Cook (1-1) allowed seven runs (four earned) on eight hits and a pair of walks in five innings from the hill to saddle the loss for the Black & Gold. Roney (2-0) surrendered just five hits in 6-1/3 innings of shutout work to pick up the win. He also struck out four.

Hyde hit the first of his two home runs to give Montevallo a 2-0 lead in the first, but the Falcons added two more scores in the second to pad their lead. The visitors led 11-0 by the middle of the eighth before the Braves spoiled the shutout with three unearned runs in the bottom of the that frame.

UNCP will continue a season-opening 15-game homestand on Tuesday when they suit up to battle U.S. 74 rival Wingate (8-5) in a 3 p.m. contest at Sammy Cox Field. The Black & Gold will play at home again on Thursday against 14th-ranked Millersville (5-1), and will close out the week with a three-game home set against Shippensburg (2-4) on Saturday and Sunday.
