WOMEN'S NOTES
  • The Lady Braves (7-4, 2-2 PBC) dropped a 73-56 road affair with No. 19 Columbus State Wednesday evening despite hauling in a season-best 56 rebounds and holding the Cougars to their lowest shooting percentage (35.1) in almost a full calendar year.
  • Junior Brianna Baham had a career game Wednesday, going for 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists – all of which were career highs. Senior Jasmine Huntley leads the Braves in both scoring (10.0 points/game) and assists (3.8/game), as well as a 47.3 shooting percentage. She is among the PBC's top 10 in total assists and assists per game. Classmate Jonissa Monley is pouring in 9.8 points per contest and grabs 8.1 boards per game. Monley has a team-leading four double-doubles this season. Junior Ebone Stevens ranks third in the conference with a 43.9 shooting percentage from behind the arc.
  • UNCP ranks third among the 14 PBC institutions in 3-point field goals made per game (6.6), 3-point field goal attempts per game (21.4), total rebounds per game (45.0) and opponents 3-point field goal percentage (25.7). The Braves are 4-1 at home this season, including four-consecutive wins at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court, and are currently in a tie for third in the PBC East Division standings.
  • Georgia College (8-2, 2-1 PBC) sits fourth in the PBC West Division race, but are winners of four of their last five overall. The Bobcats are 5-1 away from home this season, with the only loss being a 72-61 setback in their last outing at PBC foe USC Aiken on Wednesday.
  • The Bobcats commit the fewest turnovers per game (14.2) in the PBC and rank second in the league in assists per game (16.9) and field goal percentage (42.7). In conference play, GC is giving up a PBC-low 53.0 points per game. Forward Alyah McGriff leads the Bobcats with 16.8 points per game, good for seventh-best in the league. Her 9.2 rebounds per game are tied for sixth best in the PBC and she ranks sixth in field goal percentage at 55.1. Lindsey Reed averages 8.7 points per game, followed closely by Ana Anderson at 7.2 per tilt. Anderson ranks third in the conference with a 59.2 percent conversion rate from the field.
  • Georgia College holds a 29-8 advantage in the all-time series, including the last four meetings and six of the last seven. The Braves have won seven of the 17 meetings in Pembroke dating back to the 1992-93 campaign.

MEN'S NOTES
  • The Braves (9-4, 2-2 PBC) battled back from a 14-point deficit midway through the first half and climbed to within a lone point with 1:28 to play, but dropped a 91-88 decision at Columbus State on Wednesday. It was the second-straight setback for the Braves whose last three losses have come by a total of six points.
  • January will be a kind month to UNCP who plays five of its next seven outings in Pembroke. The Braves will make the long trek to central Alabama on Monday to take on Montevallo, but will open up a three-game home stand on Monday against Young Harris.
  • The Braves boast the Peach Belt Conference's second-best scoring offense at 86.6 points per game, but will take on the league's top-rated scoring defense on Friday. Georgia College has limited its opponents to just 64.9 points an outing so far this season, has limited five opponents to 58 points or less and has held their opponents to a league-best 39.2 shooting percentage from the field this season.
  • The Bobcats (8-4, 2-1) have now won three-straight games after Wednesday afternoon's 74-67 victory at USC Aiken. The result also marked the fifth-straight road win this season for GC whose only road defeat this season came in a season-opening 87-81 loss to Pfeiffer.
  • Georgia College has just one player – sophomore forward Chaz Berry – boasting a double-figure scoring average (10.3 points/game). Berry averages better than five 3-point attempts per game, but Garrick DeBowles is the best perimeter threat for the Bobcats and has canned more than 48 percent of his shots from downtown through a dozen games.
  • Georgia College leads the all-time series, 29-8, but that record is skewed thanks to a 15-year period (1996-2010) that watched the Bobcats capture 24 of 25 matchups with the Braves. The squads have split six meetings since the 2009-10 season, and all three of UNCP's victories over the span have come at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
