PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Sophomore
Silus Kipkoech covered the 10K course in just under 35 minutes to lead the UNC Pembroke men's cross country team to a 32
nd place finish at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning at Scheney Park in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The performance marked the first team finish for the Braves in 37 years. It was the first team appearance at the event for the Black & Gold since registering a 15
th place showing at the 1981 NCAA Championships.
Kipkoech's time (34:44.0) was good enough for 113
th place among a 261-man field of the nation's most elite cross country student-athletes. Senior
Logan Ward crossed in 147
th place with a time of 35:11.9, while
Jonathan Martin was 215
th with a mark of 36:26.2.
Matthew Martin (36:50.7) was 233
rd, while
Jarett Arabie (38:06.0) and
Ean Ormsby (38:19.1) crossed in 259
th and 261
st place, respectively.
Joshua Chepkesir, who captured both the Peach Belt Conference and NCAA Southeast Region titles leading up to Saturday, did not finish due to an undisclosed injury.
