Eight Wrestlers Advance To Semifinal Round At Citrus Invitational

LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA, Fla. – The UNC Pembroke wrestling team's recent surge of success continued at the Citrus Invitational in south Florida on Saturday when eight Braves turned in an unblemished opening day on the way to punching their ticket into Sunday's semifinal round.
 
All-Americans Nick Daggett (125 pounds) and Rodney Shepard (165) moved into Sunday's semifinal action, as did Jonathan Miller (141), Kaleb Warner (149), Tyler Makosy (157) and Brandon Sloop (184). Andrew Colborn and Marcus Montgomery advanced through to the semifinal round of the 197-pound tournament, but are placed on separate sides of the bracket.
 
Joseph Ballantyne (133) and freshman Rahsaan Vereen (165) both rebounded from setbacks in the championship tournament with wins in the consolation bracket on Saturday. Both will wrestle in the consolation quarterfinal round of their respective brackets on Sunday as well.
 
Sunday's wrestling action at Cardinal Gibbons High School, located just minutes north of Fort Lauderdale, is scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m. Nine other Braves will compete for ninth place in their respective weight classes on Sunday as well.
