Wrestling Sends Nine To Podium At Citrus Invitational

LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA, Fla. – Nick Daggett (125 pounds), Jonathan Miller (141) and Brandon Sloop (184) all finished off perfect runs through their respective tournaments with convincing wins in the championship bout to lead the UNC Pembroke wrestling team to a third-place finish at the Citrus Invitational on Sunday in south Florida.
 
Tyler Makosy (157), Rodney Shepard (165) and Marcus Montgomery (197) capped off their Sunday with wins in the third-place match of their respective tournaments, while Andrew Colborn (197) and Kaleb Warner (149) tallied fourth- and sixth-place finishes, respectively. Freshman William Deese won a trio of matches on Sunday to pick up ninth-place recognition.
 
It was the third tournament victory of the season for Miller, while Daggett and Sloop both made their third trips of the season to the podium.
 
The Braves will resume their 2018-19 campaign, Jan. 18-19, when they make the long trip to southeast Pennsylvania to take part in the Kutztown Duals. The Black & Gold is slated to take on three nationally-ranked teams at the event, including No. 8 Pitt-Johnstown, No. 16 Kutztown and No. 21 Seton Hill.
