April 2, 2018

MORGANTON – Playing the final tune-up for the upcoming league tournament, the UNC Pembroke golf squad backed up its opening round 310 with a matching 22-over par score in Monday's final round of the NCAA Division I-heavy Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate being hosted by Appalachian State.

The Braves (+10) fell two spots into 10th place on the par-72, 6,077-yard Mimosa Hills Country Club Course in a field consisting of 11 Division I teams. Troy (+19) held off a charging USC Upstate (+22) by three strokes to claim the team title, while Elon (+23) slotted third and James Madison (+29) and Wofford (+29) tied for fourth.

Junior Alexandria Bare (+9) carded a second-round 74, her second-lowest round of the season, to vault up the individual leaderboard into a tie for 26th in the 88-player field. Senior Savannah Thompson (+12) finished in a share of 44th after a Monday 77, while freshman Maddy Corley (+13) carded an 83 in the final round to tie for 47th. Sophomores Katy Flax (+14) and Megan Munroe (+14) finished among a four-way tie for 52.

Elon's Aurelia Hamm (-4) fired the tournament's only round under 70 on Monday, a five-under 67, to win the individual title by three strokes over Maiken Bing Paulsen (-1) of Presbyterian. Wofford's Nicole Chin (E) was the only other player at even par or better.

The Braves will enjoy 10 days off before teeing off at the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) tournament April 13-15. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be contested at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida. UNCP finished third in the seven-team field a year ago.
