Box Score PEMBROKE - The UNC Pembroke volleyball team hit better than .750 in the second set en route to evening the match up, but ultimately fell to Newberry in four sets (11-25, 25-13, 19-25, 20-25) on Friday afternoon at the FMU Invitational in Florence, S.C.
 

GAME REPLAY
SET 1 I 11-25	Newberry scored the first nine points of the set and never looked back. The Wolves hit .294 in the opening set and led by as many as 16 points after an attack error by the Braves gave the Wolves a 23-7 advantage.
SET 2 I 25-13	The Black & Gold hit a dominant .762 on the way to evening the match back up in the second set. Newberry grabbed the first point, but the Braves responded with a 10-2 run to grab a healthy lead minutes later. The Wolves pulled to within 11-7, but UNCP responded again, this time scoring nine of the next 12 points to pull away for good.
SET 3 I 19-25	Newberry scored 11 of the set's first 13 points and set the tone early, but the Braves slowly chipped away at their deficit and put the Wolves on their heels by the end of the set. The Wolves led by 10 points, 23-13, after a kill from Toni-Anne Whitlow, but UNCP scored six of the next seven points to force a Newberry timeout.
SET 4 I 20-25	The Braves led by as many as five points, 13-8, after a service ace from Anna Heinz, but the Wolves scratched their way back into the set and took a 19-18 advantage on the first of two-straight kills by Vanessa Blas. Blas's kills came amid a match-closing 11-2 run by Newberry.

UP NEXT

The Braves will be back in action again later today (4 p.m.) at the Francis Marion-hosted FMU Invitational. UNCP is scheduled to take on undefeated Lenoir-Rhyne (5-0) at 4 p.m. in a rematch of last weekend's 5-set thriller at the UNCP Invitational.
