PINEHURST – Samantha DeBusk carded an 8-over-par 79 in the first round of action on Monday and the UNC Pembroke golf team sits in fifth place after day one of the Battle for Royalty at Southern Pines Golf Club. 
 
A native of nearby Lexington, DeBusk sits tied for sixth place and is seven strokes behind the individual leader, Beam Sararat of King. Amanda Hamrin (+9) and Georgia Page (+9) finished the day with an 80 and are among a six way tie for 14th place. Toni Blackwell (+10) sits in a eight way tie for 20th place, while Elizabeth Ritchie (+14) rounded out the scoring for the Braves tied for 44th place.
 
The Braves will close out competition at the Battle for Royalty on Tuesday. Tee times are set to begin at 8:50 a.m.
