SALISBURY - Freshman Vilma Evald carded a six-over-par to help position the UNC Pembroke golf team to a three-way tie for fifth place after the opening round of action at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational at the Country Club of Salisbury.
 
Evald currently sits amongst a five-way tie for seventh place in her collegiate debut with a 77 in the first round. Reigning Conference Carolinas Golfer of the Year Georgia Page (+9) finished the day in a tie for 20^th place with an 80, while junior Toni Blackwell (+12) and redshirt senior Amanda Hamrin (+12) are in a four-way tie for 34^th place. Samantha DeBusk (+14) rounded out the scoring for the Braves with an 85 in the opening round and currently sits tied for 41^st place. 
 
The Black & Gold will be back in close out competition on Tuesday at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational. Tee time is set for 8:30 a.m. at the Country Club of Salisbury.
