Cross Country Teams Turn In Good Showings At UAH Chargers Invite

HUNTSVILLE, AL. – Moureen Kimaiyo led the way on the women's side with a 29th-place finish in the 6K race, while Kelvin Kibet paced the men in the 8K race with a 73rd-place finish, as both programs turned in good runs Saturday morning at the always-competitive UAH Chargers Invite, hosted by the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Kimaiyo paced the women with a personal-best time of 21:48, tying the second-fastest women's 6K time in school history, with Jackline Kosgei finishing 81st with a time 22:41, and Michela Gritti taking 115th with a personal-best time of 23:24.5. Malea Bennewitz (24:08) took 144th, Sofia Skidmore (24:12) was 146th, with Leticia Pena (25:30.9) in 192nd. Lizzy Laurine placed 235th with a time of 27:44.7, Mariah Spencer was 238th at 27:58.1, with LaNiya Harris taking 261st with a time of 34:11.6 to round out the women's side.

Kibet recorded a new personal best and led the men with a time of 25:16.2, with Antony Kigen taking 82nd at a personal-best 25:23.2, and Ryan Jimenez finishing 116th at 25:49. Lucas Nervo (25:56.3) took 128th and established a new personal best, Jack Phieffer (26:22.7) was 167th, with Payden Lewis (26:23) finishing 169th and also turning in a new personal best. Conrad Robertson finished 190th with a personal-best 26:38.4, Will Clancey turned in a personal best and took 210th with a time of 27:03.9, with Daniel Mejias also recording a personal best and placing 212th at 27:07 to round out the men's side.

The men's side finished 16th overall with 493 points, while the women took 17th with 465 points.

 
Both squads will now take a week off to prepare for the Conference Carolinas Championships, set for October 26 at Miliken Research Park in Spartanburg, S.C.
