SNOW HILL – Senior Chessa Lee and freshman Catherine DeSiena both sit within the top-10 as the UNC Pembroke golf team is currently in second place after the opening round of the Conference Carolinas Championship at Sunday at Cutter Creek Golf Club.  

A native of Tabor City, Lee carded a two-over par 74 and sits just one stroke behind Abigail Cheney of Shorter and Tamara Brito of Young Harris who lead the individual tournament. DeSiena (+4) is in a five-way tie for sixth place after the first round, while newcomer Marta Ortega (+7) is among a six-way tie for 17th place. Michelle Guerra Landa (+12) and Melissa Guerra Landa (+12) rounded out the scoring for the Braves in a five-way tie for 38th place. 

The Braves will be back in action on Monday for the second round of the Conference Championship at Cutter Creek Golf Club.
