Hoop Squads Host Converse On Monday For Military Appreciation Day

January 18, 2026

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke men's and women's basketball teams will welcome Converse to town on Monday afternoon for Military Appreciation Day at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. The women's team will get the action started at 2 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 4 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear black. 

Fans unable to make the trip to Pembroke can follow the games for free via live statistics and a live video stream on the UNCP Sports Network with Alex Inbornone handling the play-by-play duties. Tickets for Monday's game can be purchased at UNCPBraves.com/Tickets.

Monday marks the eighth time the two teams have met. UNC Pembroke leads the all-time series 6-1 and is a perfect 3-0 against Converse when playing in Pembroke. The Braves defeated the Valkyries 64-59 in the last meeting on Jan. 25, 2025 in Spartanburg, S.C.
Scouting Report: UNC Pembroke
  • UNC Pembroke has won two out of its last three games, including a 69-67 victory at Erskine on Saturday. The Braves shot 40 percent from the field and scored 21 second chance points from 22 offensive rebounds during Saturday's victory. 
  • The Black & Gold are averaging 60.9 points per game and are shooting 39.6 percent from the field. However, the Braves have shot the ball better than 40 percent during their last three games.
  • Opponents are averaging 67.3 points per game and are shooting 41 percent from the floor. 
  • The Braves average 5.7 steals per contest, but logged a season-high 10 steals on Saturday at Erskine. UNCP tallies 37.5 rebounds per outing as well. 
  • Grace Ikenegbu is shooting 50 percent from the field this season and is averaging 8.1 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. The junior registered her first double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds on Saturday and leads Conference Carolinas in rebounds per game. 
Scouting Report: Converse
  • Converse is looking to snap a six-game skid following a 90-62 setback against Barton on Saturday. The Valkyries were just 9-for-28 from the perimeter and 3-for-9 from the free throw line, while the Bulldogs went 10-of-24 from the three-point line and finished the game making 18-of-28 free throw attempts. 
  • CU averages 59.2 points per game and is shooting just 34.9 percent from the field. However, they allow opponents to score 80.5 points per game, which ranks second in Conference Carolinas for most points allowed in a game, and are shooting 44.3 percent from the field. 
  • The Valkyries commit 19.3 turnovers a game and allow opponents to score 21.6 points from those turnovers. 
  • Tatiana Brown has started in 15 games this season and leads Converse averaging 14.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. The junior scored 18 points and had eight rebounds on Saturday in 28 minutes of work.

  • UNC Pembroke rides a four-game win streak into Monday's game following a dominating 78-53 victory at Erskine on Saturday. The Braves shot 52.2 percent from the field and made a season-best 14 three-pointers. 
  • UNCP averages 78.6 points per game and is shooting 47.4 percent from the field. Opponents are being limited to 71.9 points per game and are shooting 44.6 percent from the field. 
  • The Black & Gold lead Conference Carolinas in free throw attempts per game with 19.3. The Braves are averaging 7.5 3-pointers per contest as well as 37.9 rebounds a game. 
  • Sophomore Quay Watson finished Saturday's game with 17 points and was 5-for-9 from the perimeter. Watson averages 12.5 points and 3.0 assists per game. 
Scouting Report: Converse
  • Converse had its two-game win streak snapped on Saturday following an 89-86 setback against Barton. The Valkyries shot 42.6 percent from the field and scored 28 points inside the paint, but the Bulldogs shot 56.1 percent from the field and picked up 42 points inside the paint. 
  • CU is averaging 78.7 points per game and is shooting 44.5 percent from the field. However, opponents are averaging 79.9 points each game and are shooting 47.6 percent from the floor. 
  • Converse averages 10.0 three-pointers per game and shooting 37.4 percent from the perimeter. They allow opponents to record 37.1 rebounds a game, while the Valkyries tally just 33.0 boards.
  • Will Fowler leads Converse averaging 20.9 points per game and is shooting 50.9 percent from the field. The redshirt freshman finished Saturday's game with 26 points, seven assists, three rebounds and one steal in 37 minutes of work.
